No need to migrate to Windows 10 if you have a PC with an Intel processor Skylake. Microsoft will offer updates until the death of Windows 7 or 8.1.
In January, Microsoft made a sensational announcement: from the Skylake generation, recent Intel processors require Windows 10. As of July 17, 2017, a PC running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 with a CPU Skylake should no longer receive that a handful of security update.
In March, Microsoft had declined this maturity of one year. Today, the publisher says have finally removed this ultimatum: PC Skylake continue to receive all security updates until the end of the extended support period for Windows 7 and 8.1 (ie 14 January 2020 to 7 and January 10, 2023 to 8.1).
modern processor = Windows 10
Microsoft has not completely abandoned its original idea though. Only PC Skylake sold by leading OEM and being part of a compatibility list receive updates. In addition, Microsoft maintains that only Windows 10 is fully compatible with Kaby Lake processors (Intel) or Bristol Ridge (AMD) from a functional point of view. Similarly, from Kaby Lake and Bristol Ridge, only Windows 10 will receive security updates.
